Introduction

Trail mix has long served as a convenient and nutritious snack, and this chocolate trail mix version combines classic ingredients with a decadent twist. The base consists of almonds, cashews, and walnuts, complemented by sunflower and pumpkin seeds, creating a foundation rich in healthy fats and protein.

The addition of dried fruits - figs, apricots, and raisins - provides natural sweetness and a chewy texture contrast, while sliced coconut adds a tropical note. Dark chocolate, preferably with 70% cocoa content, transforms this traditional snack into something special without overwhelming sweetness.

The preparation process is simple: roast the nuts, seeds, and coconut together, season with olive oil and salt, then mix in the dried fruits and chocolate. The entire process takes about 20 minutes, with most of that time dedicated to roasting.

This trail mix stores well in airtight containers for up to a month, making it ideal for batch preparation. The recipe is also highly adaptable - you can adjust ingredients based on dietary needs or preferences, such as making it nut-free by substituting with more seeds or roasted chickpeas.

While perfect for hiking or outdoor activities, this mix also serves well as a daily snack or party offering. The combination of protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates makes it both satisfying and energizing, while the dark chocolate adds just enough indulgence to make it feel like a treat.
